Music at Little Hadham

Music plays a very special part in the learning of pupils at Little Hadham Primary.

With a fairly musical staff, we are able to offer free musical lunchtime clubs, such as KS2 Guitars, Recorder Clubs and KS2 Choir.

Through ‘Musical Opportunities’, we offer our Year 5 pupils free weekly Keyboard Tuition led by a County specialist.¬†

Keyboard Tuition

School also works with the ‘Music for Schools Foundation’ to provide opportunities for wind instrument tuition for KS2 pupils. The Foundation has their own instrument leasing or purchasing system and for a nominal tuition fee, pupils can learn to play clarinet, flute, cornet or saxophone.

In addition to this, pupils can receive drum tuition through the ‘Drumtruck’- a fully soundproofed and equipped drumming studio which drives on to school premises!

As part of outdoor learning, pupils can experiment with musical composition using our Outdoor Music Trail and, inside school, we have a designated Music Room for all music lessons and clubs. We also use the ICT suite to compose music electronically using 2Simple Music Toolkit software.

Through the S.T.A.G.E. Network, we provide opportunities for our more talented musicians and singers to shine and perform alongside others across the local schools network.

Little Hadham pupils love to sing and we provide many exciting opportunities for them to perform. Alternate ¬†years, our Y6 pupils join with other schools across the County to sing at the Royal Albert Hall and our Willow Class pupils sang in the ‘Young Voices’ concert at the O2 Arena.

Locally, our Year 6 and Year 2 pupils respectively take part in the Bishop’s Stortford Year 6 and Year 2 Music Festivals. In addition, each Christmas, our Choir sing in the Bishop’s Stortford Carol Service at St Michael’s Church.

Our KS1 Christmas production and our KS2 Summer production provide our pupils with further opportunities to demonstrate their singing skills and, in February each year, the whole school joins together in the ‘Sign to Sing’ Guinness World Record attempt!
