13.9.2024 It’s all Greek to me!

Welcome to Maple class!

This week, in English, we identified the features of an instructional text and we upleveled a Greek-style salad recipe. We then had the opportunity to make and try Ancient Greek pancakes and write our own recipe, based on our notes and experience. Our instructional texts were full of noun phrases and fronted adverbials; they had an engaging introduction, clear layout and detailed steps. The challenging-to-make but surprisingly tasty pancakes would have been a treat for ancient Greeks visiting the theatre.

In our first Yoga session, we warmed up with the postures of the ‘sun sequence’ and played the ‘Shark game’, while performing new postures.  Throughout the games, we worked on our listening skills; the session ended with the calming powers of the ‘rainstick’ and the ‘ladybird relaxation’ games.

In our first hockey session, our objective was to use attacking skills to beat a defender. In order to achieve this, we worked on changing direction using dribbling and driving into space away from the defender. Through various activities, we learnt that we use dribbling in a game to maintain possession, move towards goal, or create space to be able to pass or shoot. By maintaining possession and moving the ball towards goal to score, we can outwit the opposition.

Have a lovely weekend.
