Art week was an exploration of colour and pattern for us in Willow Class this week. We began by looking at the work of Victorian artist and printmaker William Morris.
We were inspired by his botanical themed prints and made our own tiles. We used these designs to create repeating patterns to great effect.
We then used press print tiles to print with. We transferred our designs using tracing paper and a lot of care. Using water based pens and a light spray of water, we successfully transferred our designs onto paper multiple times to create amazing results.
Later in the week, we explored the work of Irish designer and printmaker Orla Kiely. We found her work echoed that of William Morris with her use of botanical designs.
We experimented using different colours and layering the colours to create more striking designs. Our finished prints have a truly professional quality about them.
As much as we have loved producing super artwork this week and learning new skills, a highlight for us was our art exhibition on Friday when we had the opportunity to exhibit our work and share our learning with the whole school community in our very own art gallery!
Thank you to our parents and grandparents for coming and celebrating our artwork with us!
What better way to round off a fabulous week than with a Colour Run! Thank you to our amazing Friends for organising a super event. We loved it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
