‘Learning never exhausts the mind!’

Our second week back together in school and we are making great use of our learning partners – it’s good to talk!

We have been exploring vocabulary in our whole class reading lessons as we delve deeper into our class text ‘Wonder’ by R. J. Palacio. It’s so good to be able to discuss our ideas and share our thoughts with our learning partners.

There was much team work in RE this week as we tried our hand at origami. The lotus flower is a symbol representing purity, peace and enlightenment in Buddhism. We made origami lotus flowers – they were very tricky but having a learning partner by your side makes all the difference!

In Science, we learned more about evolution and what makes us who we are. We learnt about DNA and extracted DNA from strawberries! We worked in our teams to pulverize strawberries before adding salt, washing up liquid and water. Then we added surgical spirit and patiently watched the strands of DNA form. Amazing!

We have learnt how to use Makaton sign language to perform the song ‘This is Me!’. We will be performing this to our partner schools next week as part of our ‘Alice in Wonderland’ e-twinning project. Watch this space!

We know how proud Year 6 are of their newspaper reports and their Shakespeare portraits – their smiles said it all as they enjoyed seeing their work displayed in the classroom.

We learn so much from each other: talking and listening, sharing ideas and working as a team. Just take a look at what we’ve been up to in our Yoga (team challenges) and Forest sessions!

Have a super weekend, Year 6!
