Let’s talk about mental health

It is now a truth universally acknowledged that the arts inspire and motivate children’s creativity, allowing them to find their voice and open up their imagination. As well as giving them a space to explore challenging themes more openly outside of the formal learning environment, the arts help to build young people’s confidence, resilience and self-esteem. Also, it has been noted that making art is helping many people express themselves, without having to use words.

As you may have seen during this time of isolation, art lovers around the world have found a way to unite and stay creative: by recreating classic artworks using whatever they can find at home.  It’s a great way to look at and learn about art while being creative with constraints.

Therefore, this Friday to mark the end of Children’s Mental Health Week, we are challenging you to express yourself through recreating a work of art with objects (and people) in your home.

Follow these easy steps:

  • Choose your favourite art work
  • Find things in your home
  • Recreate the art work with those items
  • Share with us and if you share on Facebook or Twitter please do tag us

We have included some examples and ideas to get you started. These include some efforts that our staff have trialled. It has to be said that using our own children as prop experts and photographers definitely had a good laugh!

We are hoping to raise awareness of the importance of everyone’s mental health, especially at such a challenging time. We can’t wait to see your pictures!
