School’s out for the summer…

Dear parents and carers,

Somebody pinch me… we made it! This certainly has been an academic year like no other. We experienced the first pandemic of our lifetimes, closed the school, became remote teachers and learners, partially reopened and now it’s the end of the academic year! Was that really only 4 months…?

Today’s update is all about thank yous…

Firstly, I want to thank all our Little Hadham children for once again being an incredible bunch of inspirational young people. Being Headteacher of this school is such an honour and that is due to the joy and pride I take from seeing your children shine. Polite, hardworking and always willing to try their best. Lockdown has certainly been a different level of challenge and I commend them all for their dedication in completing our online learning in such a positive way. Those children that have been in school have done so with a smile, adapting to our changes in a typically ‘can do’ Little Hadham spirit. Well done to each and every one of you!

Secondly, I want to thank parents again for your willingness to support home learning during lockdown. You have all risen to the difficult challenge of becoming teachers and I am so grateful for your resilience, enthusiasm and understanding throughout lockdown. I feel there have been many positives to have come out of this period and am sure the closer working relationship of parents and teachers is something we will look to build upon further in the future. You all deserve a medal!

Lastly, I want to thank my staff team. This school would be nothing without this dedicated and talented bunch. I’ll never forget the bravery of staff to come into school and help organise and put everything into place to get the school ready for a new ‘normal’. I salute you! Many have their own personal challenges going on during lockdown, so their united support is quite exceptional. I’m sure you will agree they should all head off for the summer with their heads held high, proud of their efforts to support families during this time of national crisis. I’m a very lucky Head Teacher!

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for their kind cards and gifts to staff across the school. We never expect this and certainly do not take this for granted, we have been completely overwhelmed.  The kind words and messages were so personal and meaningful and really touched our hearts. I will certainly enjoy heading to the shops when all is safe and sound and treat myself like suggested! Knowing we have done our parents and children proud means more than anything so thank you.

I wish you all a relaxing and sunny summer break. I can’t wait to see everyone back in September!

Take care,

Sinead Connolly
