We’ve had another super and busy week in Early Years. The children enjoyed their Tales Toolkit session where they create a story as a class, using props to give them ideas. This week the character was a dog, the setting was some grass, the problem was a pine cone and the solution was a wand. The children developed a story where the dog got trapped under the pine cone, fortunately the magic fairy wand lifted the pine cone off the trapped dog. The children worked so well together to come up with their imaginative story.
We have started our All About Me topic and have been thinking about what we like to do at home and at school. The children excitedly shared with each other all the activities they like to do, including swimming, going on bike rides and playing in their garden. We have been reading So Much by Trish Cooke and talking about which family members they have and what they can do with their Mummies, Daddies, Aunts, Uncles and Grandma and Grandads. All the children drew fantastic pictures of the things they like to do. We have also been thinking about who the children can talk to if they are worried or have a problem. We have discussed who they can talk to both at home and at school. It is important that they know they have lots of people around them who can help them if something is worrying them.
Ash class have started their phonics lessons and their teachers are blown away by how amazing they all are with their sounds! We are so impressed and they should be very proud of themselves, as we look at reading and writing the initial sounds.
In maths, Saplings have been practising counting to 5 and helped count the speckled frogs when the class cheeky monkey kept taking them. Mrs Webb was so impressed with their counting! Ash children have been working together to count up to 10 in order and even managed it without the help of a teacher – great teamwork.
The children enjoyed their dance class and thought about moving in different ways around the hall. We saw some super movement from the children. In PE, they are continuing to practise their hand-eye co-ordination as they bounce and catch footballs. It is wonderful to watch the children enjoy exploring the forest and gain more confidence to climb the trees during their Forest school sessions.
We have been lucky to receive a new play kitchen which has been very welcomed. During choosing time, Ash and Saplings have been very busy baking cakes, toasting bread and making cups of tea for the teachers. The children have also been searching for glittery stars and pearls in the sandy tuff tray, using magnifying glasses, strainers and scoops. Puzzles, drawing and the police station role play have also been popular choices this week.
