This week in Maple Class, we learned about Rosa Parks, a civil rights activist who challenged segregation in the United States, and Mary Seacole, a Jamaican-born nurse who cared for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. We celebrated Black History Week by exploring the achievements and contributions of inspiring Black figures. In English, we wrote diary entries and letters, using emotive language and personal reflections to bring our writing to life.
In Maths, we have been developing our subtraction skills and applying them to solve a range of problems.
In History, we discussed how modern life has been influenced by the Ancient Greeks. We created colourful posters and completed a quiz to demonstrate the knowledge we have gained throughout the term.
In PE, we enjoyed a calming yoga session, following a sequence of poses and taking part in fun activities such as the Shark Game. We also practised relaxation techniques using the Rainstick Game and Ladybird relaxation activities, helping us to feel calm and focused.
In PSHE, children worked in pairs or groups to design an imaginary character who was the same age as themselves. They considered a series of statements and discussed how their character’s basic emotional needs were met. Children explored how emotional needs could change depending on circumstances and recognised that different people might experience and respond to the same situation in different ways.
We also had an exciting visit to our new library bus, where everyone had the opportunity to explore the wonderful selection of books and borrow their very first reads! It was a fantastic experience that sparked curiosity and encouraged a love of reading.
