What a fantastic and busy week we have had in Lime Class! The children have been working incredibly hard across the curriculum and have shown great enthusiasm in all of their learning.
In Maths, we have been exploring tenths and hundredths, using Base Ten equipment to help the children understand how decimals relate to whole numbers. The hands-on resources really helped bring the learning to life, and the children enjoyed representing and comparing decimals in practical ways.
In English, we focused on suffixes and how they can change nouns into verbs and adverbs. The children impressed us with their vocabulary work and creativity. Year 3 particularly enjoyed using the story The Day the Crayons Quit to inspire their own persuasive letters, written from the point of view of an overused crayon! We had some wonderfully dramatic complaints from tired, overworked crayons who were desperate for a rest.
Science has been especially exciting for Year 3, as we were lucky enough to welcome a visitor from a local flower farm. She spoke to the children about her job and helped bring the science of growing plants to life. The children learnt all about how plants make their own food using light and were fascinated by the process. Our visitor kindly gave the children some dried flowers to take home, and afterwards the class wrote thoughtful thank-you letters to show their appreciation.
Meanwhile, Year 4 carried out a memorable science investigation using boiled eggs to explore the effects of different substances on tooth enamel. The children observed carefully and discussed what this tells us about looking after our teeth — I imagine there was plenty of careful tooth brushing at home afterwards!
In PE, the summer sports season has begun. Lime Class have been practising long jump and developing their athletic skills with great determination. In gymnastics, the children worked in pairs to compose sequences of balances, carefully mirroring each other’s movements and demonstrating excellent teamwork and control.
Our Art lessons this half term are focused on 3D art, and the children have been highly engaged in creating impressive paper sculptures. Their creativity and perseverance have really shone through, and the finished pieces look amazing. They are now proudly displayed in the classroom, so please do pop in and have a look if you get the chance.
To end the week, we joined a live webinar celebrating the birthday of Sir David Attenborough. The children were thrilled to discover that the special guest was Steve Backshall from Deadly 60! It was a wonderful opportunity to inspire the children’s curiosity about wildlife and the natural world.
Well done, Lime Class, for another brilliant week of learning and fun!
