This week has been bursting with discoveries, creativity and Christmas sparkle! We’ve peered inside the eye, converted our measurements with confidence, and rehearsed our hearts out for the big Bazaar performance.
Science: Seeing Is Believing!
In Science, we explored the amazing world of the human eye. We learned how the eye works and how we are able to see the world around us. We learned about the colourful iris, the light-controlling pupil, the protective cornea, the strong sclera, the clever retina, and the speedy optic nerve that sends messages straight to the brain.
We also discovered that the iris is actually a muscle—and a very clever one! It changes the size of the pupil to let more light in when it’s dark and less light in when it’s bright. To see this in action, we tried a simple but amazing experiment: we covered one eye for a few seconds, then uncovered it and compared the size of both pupils. We were amazed at how different they looked! How incredible is the human body?
To show off our understanding, we created plastescine cross-section models of eyes, labelling each part and explaining how it works using our key scientific vocabulary. We really impressed with our creativity and scientific thinking.
Maths: Mastering Metric Magic
In Maths, we have been converting metric measures and creating our very own conversion charts. For example, we now know that to change grams to kilograms, we simply divide by 1000. We practised estimating different measures using everyday objects and had great discussions about which units are best for different items. (We’ve now learned that measuring a pencil in kilometres is definitely not the way to go!)
Music: Showtime Sparkle!
We’ve been polishing our class song ready for the big performance at the Christmas Bazaar on Friday. With chime bars chiming and a guitar accompaniment added in, our song is really coming to life. We’re so proud of how we’ve worked together—listening, encouraging and supporting one another to create a super class performance. We can’t wait for you to hear it!
Festive Fun Around School
The Christmas spirit has officially arrived! Our wonderful School Captains took charge of decorating the Christmas tree in the hall, and thanks to their brilliant efforts, it looks absolutely magical. With twinkling lights and festive cheer spreading through the corridors, it’s beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas! Just the way we like it at this time of year!
We hope you enjoy the Christmas Bazaar. Have a lovely weekend.
