22nd May

This week, Years 3 and 4 have been fully immersed in the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons. We explored the legendary hero Beowulf and his gruesome battles against terrifying monsters, which sparked some brilliant discussions and imaginative writing in class. The children were captivated by the dramatic story and showed great enthusiasm when learning about how these tales were shared long before books were common. We also discovered the importance of Christianity to the Anglo-Saxons and learnt how it first arrived in Britain, helping us understand how religion shaped life during this period in history.

In Science, the Polycrub continues to be a fantastic resource for our learning. The children have loved observing plant growth in action and seeing first-hand how plants change and develop over time. It has been wonderful to encourage curiosity through real-life investigations, and the class has asked thoughtful questions while making careful observations. We are looking forward to continuing our studies as the plants grow even further over the coming weeks.

Computing lessons have been full of creativity this week as the children experimented with different photo editing techniques. They enjoyed learning how to crop, adjust, and enhance images while developing their digital skills and confidence using technology. In Maths, our focus has been on telling the time to the nearest minute and calculating durations. The children have worked hard to solve practical problems involving time, and Year 4 have also been practising their times tables regularly in preparation for their upcoming online multiplication check.

Music brought plenty of energy and excitement to the classroom as the children created their own rhythm maps. Using patterns as a form of musical notation, they practised clapping and performing rhythms together, developing both timing and teamwork skills. It has been a busy and productive week across the curriculum, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, effort, and resilience the children continue to show in all areas of their learning.
