What a wonderful day we had celebrating Art Week!
Creativity filled our classrooms as the children wrote incredible acrostic poems inspired by A Muse by Cosima Tura. The ambitious vocabulary they researched and carefully selected was truly impressive and made their poems shine.
We were also proud to display our fabulous cardboard thrones, each accompanied by a description explaining the inspiration behind its design. As the painting has a marine theme, we worked together to create a stunning collaborative underwater scene, full of colour, imagination and teamwork.
In English, we continued our exciting poetry journey by exploring metaphors. The children thought of their own imaginative metaphors before illustrating them with beautiful drawings. We also created a class poem inspired by Joseph Coelho’s I Am a Writer, which uses metaphors to describe the feeling of writing creatively.
The children’s ideas were simply fantastic, with one memorable example being, “I am a soaring cuckoo because I drop words into other birds’ nests.” Their creativity and thoughtful ideas made this a real highlight of the week.
In Maths, we became statisticians as we learned how to create, read and interpret bar charts and tables. Meanwhile, in Geography, we explored the different stages of a river and discovered the features of coastal management as part of our fascinating topic on the seas and rivers of the UK.
The children enjoyed making links between human and physical geography while developing their understanding of how our landscapes are shaped and protected.
Transition Morning was another exciting part of the week as the children visited their new classrooms and spent time with the friends they will be learning alongside in September. They approached the morning with enthusiasm and curiosity, helping to make the move feel exciting and positive.
Despite the very hot weather, the children coped brilliantly throughout the week and thoroughly enjoyed a well-deserved ice lolly on Thursday afternoon to help everyone cool down!
