9.10.2026 Learning Through Creativity and Collaboration

This week in Maple Class, the children have enjoyed a busy and engaging week of learning.

In History, the children learned about primary and secondary sources and used a range of sources to find out about daily life in Ancient Greece. They explored what people did in their leisure time, including the importance of the Olympic Games, entertainment and family life. They then shared their ideas through a letter to a friend.

In English, the children used relative clauses and their senses to write vivid descriptions of Medusa, inspired by the myth. They developed their vocabulary and descriptive language to bring this mythical character to life.

In Maths, the children have been working with negative numbers, building their confidence in understanding and using numbers below zero.

In Art, the children developed ideas for an abstract artwork inspired by the work of Wassily Kandinsky. They experimented with shapes, lines, colours and patterns before beginning to create their own abstract pieces.

In PSHE, the children explored the importance of recognising situations when they may need to say no to a friend. They discussed appropriate assertive strategies for saying no and created posters to communicate these strategies. This learning links closely to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly our right to be safe, listened to and respected and to have our views taken seriously.

In PE, the children enjoyed their yoga session, practising the Sun Sequence postures. They also took part in calming and relaxation games, including Ladybird Relaxation, Rain Stick and Sneaky Trees, which helped them to develop their balance, concentration, listening skills and ability to relax.

In Hockey, the children continued to develop their techniques for maintaining possession. They practised controlling the ball, finding space and working effectively as a team to keep possession during games.
