It has been a busy and successful week in Beech Class, with children working hard across all areas of the curriculum and continuing to build confidence in their learning.
In English, children have enjoyed daily reading sessions, both individually and in groups, where they have been using their fluency, using phonics to decode words and developing their understanding of texts. They have also been working on spelling and handwriting, as well as improving their comprehension skills through discussion. Year 1 have continued their Dragon Slayer unit, focusing on sequencing stories and using new vocabulary, while Year 2 have been learning how to write letters and postcards, thinking carefully about how to structure their writing and include clear messages.
In Maths, Year 1 have been exploring multiplication and division through practical activities such as grouping and sharing, while Year 2 have been learning about fractions, including halves and quarters. Across both year groups, children have also been working on their mental arithmetic skills daily, helping them to become quicker and more confident with number work.
In Science, children have been investigating what plants need in order to grow. They have observed how plants change when grown with or without light and water, made predictions, and recorded their findings over time. Outdoor learning has supported their investigations, and children have enjoyed taking photographs and discussing their observations.
In Geography, children have been learning about rainforests and deserts. They have used maps and keys to locate these environments around the world and compared their features. Year 2 children also wrote simple comparison sentences to show what they have learned.
In RE, children explored how Jewish people express their faith today. They looked at traditional clothing and discussed its meaning, helping them to understand how beliefs can be shown in different ways.
In Music and Computing, children have been very creative. In Music, they explored rhythm and soundscapes using instruments and body percussion, while in Computing they began creating simple digital music by building rhythms and patterns.
In PE, children have been developing their skills, focusing on balance, coordination and movement sequences. Outdoor learning and forest school sessions have also given children opportunities to explore, work together and apply their skills in different environments.
It has been a fantastic week in Beech Class, with children showing great enthusiasm, resilience and pride in their work. We are looking forward to another exciting week ahead.
