Hot hot hot

Lime Class has had another fantastic week packed with exciting learning across the curriculum. The children have continued to show enthusiasm and curiosity in all their lessons despite the weather, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence continue to grow.

In English, we have been exploring poetry through the work of the UK poet Joseph Coelho. The children enjoyed reading and discussing his imaginative poems before creating their own. We focused on using alliteration, metaphors and acrostic poems to make our writing more creative and engaging. The pupils were inspired by Joseph Coelho’s playful use of language and produced some wonderful pieces of poetry that showcased their growing vocabulary and understanding of poetic techniques.

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and volume, developing our understanding of millilitres and litres through practical activities and problem-solving challenges. The children have enjoyed estimating, measuring and comparing different amounts while applying their mathematical knowledge to real-life situations. To make learning even more exciting, we tackled a series of Maths Code Breakers, which helped us revise our knowledge of shapes and statistics while developing our reasoning and teamwork skills.

Our Geography learning has taken us to the coast, where we have been investigating how coastal landforms are created. The children learned about the processes of erosion and discovered how caves, arches and stacks are formed over time. They were fascinated to see how the power of the sea can shape our landscapes and enjoyed making links between physical geography and real-world examples.

French lessons have been especially enjoyable as we learned vocabulary linked to ice cream. We practised asking for and describing different flavours, shapes and sizes of ice creams. We were then lucky enough to be treated to a real ice cream on Monday afternoon to help us cool down! This memorable experience gave the children a chance to use some of their new French vocabulary while enjoying a well-earned cool treat!

In PSHE, we explored the important topic of secrets and surprises. Through thoughtful discussion and role-play activities, the children learned how some surprises can be positive and exciting, while certain secrets may make us feel worried or unsafe. We discussed trusted adults and how to recognise when it is important to speak up and seek help, helping pupils develop their understanding of personal safety and wellbeing.

With the recent hot weather, Lime Class has also been learning how to stay safe and healthy during a heatwave. The children have been encouraged to drink plenty of water, stay calm and quiet, seek shade when needed and take regular breaks from the sun. We have been impressed by how responsibly they have managed the hotter temperatures while maintaining positive attitudes and behaviour. Their resilience, kindness and cheerful approach have helped maintain a happy classroom atmosphere and kept the learning going. During these difficult afternoons we have done problem solving, yoga, drawing and sketching, watercolour painting, acrostic poetry and even tried to fry an egg on the doorstep!!!

We are incredibly proud of the effort, positivity and determination shown by everyone in Lime Class. The children continue to embrace new challenges with enthusiasm, and we look forward to another week of exciting learning ahead.
