What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 3 and 4! The children have been working hard across all areas of the curriculum and have shown lots of enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity. In English, Year 3 have been focusing on grammar and developing their sentence-writing skills, with particular attention to punctuation and spelling. They have also been learning how to edit and redraft simple sentences, helping them to spot mistakes and make their writing even better. Year 4 have been thoroughly enjoying our class text and have been using it as inspiration to write their own news reports, thinking carefully about the language, structure and features that make a great report.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value and practising counting in thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. The children have also been working hard on their mental and oral maths skills, particularly when adding and subtracting. In Geography, we have been learning about the eight points of a compass and developing our ability to use a compass to navigate. We even took our learning outside for a fun running game, before putting our skills to the test by finding our way around a map of Hogwarts School!
Our Art learning has allowed us to put our pencil skills to good use. The children have been applying the techniques they have learned so far to create an artwork featuring a fantastic 3D cluster of bubbles, with lots of attention paid to shape, tone and shading. In PE, we have been making the most of the warm, sunny weather! On Thursday we enjoyed football, developing our passing and dribbling skills, while Friday brought hockey, where we continued to practise controlling the ball and working effectively with others.
The autumn feeling has definitely arrived in Forest School, where we discovered huge numbers of conkers and enjoyed exploring the seasonal changes around us. In PSHE, we have been developing important problem-solving skills by exploring friendship and social difficulties. We discussed different problems, considered a range of possible solutions and thought about which might be the best fit for each situation. We have also been learning useful sentence stems to help us take part in calm, respectful restorative conversations. It has been wonderful to see the children putting these skills into practice and supporting one another throughout the week. What a fantastic week of learning!
