This week, the children shone in their performance and learning across all subjects. They worked together to add expressive actions and performed the poem Tiger Tale by John Bennett with clarity, confidence and enthusiasm. Maple class children kept on learning about Katherine Johnson and the Year 5 children completed their biographies of Katherine Johnson, demonstrating their ability to write with accuracy, structure and thoughtful detail.
In Maths, the children used both mental and written methods to add and subtract numbers. Working with their learning partners, they tackled a range of problems, applying their strategies and explaining their reasoning.
In History, the children revisited the history of crime and punishment and compared it to modern times. To consolidate their learning, they completed an end-of-unit quiz and filled in sentences with historical terminology and missing words. They then created drawings illustrating how prevention and detention are approached today.
In Art, the children evaluated their tessellation designs, inspired by the work of M.C. Escher. They reflected on how repeating patterns can create striking visual effects and shared their ideas on how they could further improve their future designs. Inspired by the same artist, Maple class also investigated positive and negative space in art, exploring how these elements can be used to create balance and contrast within a composition.
The week ended with an amazing Golden Morning, where the children celebrated their hard work and achievements this half term. It was a wonderful way to finish before the break, filled with smiles and laughter. Thank you for all your continued support — we hope you all have a restful and fantastic half-term holiday!
