27.3.2026 Making Connections and Learning Together

This week in Maple class was full, engaging and lots of fun! In English, the children worked collaboratively in groups to enhance the poem Leisure by adding thoughtful actions and movements. They then proudly  performed their poems during Tuesday’s assembly as part of Poetry by Heart. It was wonderful to see them speak with such expression, clarity and confidence.

The children were also excited to receive letters from their penpals. Linking to our learning about Easter, they explored different Easter symbols and traditions in the UK and in England. They shared their knowledge and personal experiences in their reply letters, making meaningful cross-curricular connections between English and humanities.

In Geography, the children explored powerful natural phenomena. They learned about tsunamis, including how they are caused, and investigated volcanoes, focusing on how they are formed. Working with their learning partners, they researched key facts about the Indian Ocean Tsunami and created acrostic poems about volcanoes, combining geography with computing and literacy skills.

In PE, the children mirrored and matched movements with control and coordination. They practised a range of balances, developing their strength and stability, and used apparatus and the ropes to explore different ways of moving and supporting their body weight safely.

In PSHE, the focus was on developing critical thinking. The children learned to distinguish between facts and opinions, explored what biased reporting means and discussed the importance of thinking carefully about the information they read. The week also included a range of enriching activities across the curriculum, including the termly humanities fun quiz, Easter activities and our Golden Morning activities. These experiences helped the children refine their skills, make connections across subjects and enjoy their learning together.

Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing break with your families.
