Governors

Governors are a vital part of our school. The Governing Body is made up of 13 people who bring a range of experiences and skills from various walks of life. The key role of the governing body is to support Ms Connolly and her staff in ensuring that our children are given the best possible education alongside frequent opportunities for them to develop and thrive as individuals. The governors operate at a strategic level whilst the headteacher is responsible for the operational day-to-day running of the school.

The Governors focus strongly on three core functions:
•setting the vision and strategic direction of school;
•holding the headteacher to account for its educational performance; and
•ensuring financial resources are well spent

To do this the governing body is organised into two committees – Resources and Curriculum and Standards. The governing body meets twice a term, as do each of the committees. In addition, occasional working parties are set up to consider particular topics.

Each governor also has links to particular aspects of the school. Governors visit the school frequently, examine reports, review policies and compare data and best practice with other schools. The Governors ask questions and challenge practices to support school improvement. Above all else, they ensure that the school provides a safe environment for all pupils and staff.

Governors get to know the strengths and weaknesses of the school, understand the challenges it faces, and are directly involved in setting appropriate priorities for improvement. Whenever possible, they engage regularly with staff, pupils and parents. Parents are welcome to discuss any issues with a governor at any time, although it is usually more appropriate to contact the head teacher in the first instance.

The Chair of Governors can be contacted via the school office or at  huttk@littlehadham.herts.sch.uk
