“To give a speech is to change the world” (JF Kennedy)
This year, a record number of Year 6 pupils shared their speeches with the whole school in the hope of being elected as a new school captain.
All 14 candidates from Year 6 confidently delivered their speeches in style. They used many persuasive features and held the attention of their audience beautifully. After listening to the speeches, the whole school voted. There followed an agonising wait while the votes were counted and verified. We are delighted to announce our new Captains are Belle and Dylan, and our new Vice Captains are Max and Abigail. Congratulations to all Year 6 who delivered their speeches with such maturity and impressed us with their personal style. We are so proud of you all!
Science was hair-raising! We explored static electricity and learnt about positive and negative charges. We learnt what happens when the charges become disrupted and unbalanced. It was great fun creating static electricity with a balloon. From jumping bits of paper to hair standing on end, it was a great way to begin our Electricity topic.
On Tuesdays this half term, in PE we are honing our hockey skills. This week we showed off our dribbling skills and then introduced the reverse dribble to our skill set. We demonstrated these skills confidently whilst changing our pace and direction.
Yoga is a fabulous way for us to take time out of our busy week. We are developing our core strength in these sessions and learning how to relax both our body and our mind.
Our History topic this term is ‘Commemorate or Celebrate? A study of WWI and WWII’. After a spot of research and fact finding about how the Second World War began and which countries were involved in the war, we presented our learning ready to share with others.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…” This week we made beautiful empathy X-Ray glasses. These remind us how to ‘read’ and understand others. They help inspire us to see through the eyes of others in different situations. We will be developing our empathy skills throughout the year in a range of different situations and during our whole class reading lessons when we explore characters and their actions.
Together we make a group of tremendously dedicated foresters. This week we set about improving our amazing den in the corner of the forest. We worked on making a boundary this week and were busy dragging logs into a curve so that no one could mistake our territory for neutral land! Elsewhere, we were showing off our gymnastic moves with the new rope swing and teaching each other how to use it.
Have a great weekend!
