This week in our Year 3 and 4 classroom has been packed with exciting learning across a range of subjects. In English, we began exploring a new text called Arthur and the Golden Rope. The children were instantly intrigued by the mysterious Professor Brownstone and used persuasive writing techniques to compose letters asking him for the chance to see inside his family vault. They worked hard to include strong arguments, persuasive language, and confident sentence structures.
In Maths, our focus has been on money. The children practised counting coins and notes accurately and worked on adding different amounts together. Year 4s extended their learning by exploring how money links to decimals, deepening their understanding of place value. Although we haven’t yet looked at giving change or set up any role-play activities, the children have shown great enthusiasm for using real-life examples to support their learning.
Computing lessons were all about coding this week. The children learnt how to use coding blocks to make a sprite move across the screen. They discussed how this related to writing a flowchart algorithm, developing their understanding of sequencing and logic in programming. Everyone showed excellent problem-solving skills and enjoyed debugging their code to make sure it worked correctly.
In Design and Technology, we began a new unit focused on food technology. The first step was learning about healthy eating, and the children began researching food groups and balanced meals. They shared their ideas and favourite healthy snacks, laying the groundwork for designing and making their own nutritious meals later this term.
In Science the Year 3s explored the topic of forces by sorting different actions into ‘pushes’ and ‘pulls’ and experimenting with the force of gravity by jumping up and down! This week the Year 4s have also been hard at work preparing for their multiplication check. A few children have already completed the check and did so with confidence, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of competence. It’s been a productive and enjoyable week all round!
