What an incredible week we’ve had in Beech Class! From exciting adventures to artistic expression, the children have truly flourished.
A Magical Monday at Knebworth House
Our class trip to Knebworth House on Monday was nothing short of amazing. Under the blazing summer sun, the children dazzled us with their impressive knowledge of plants and nature. They enthusiastically identified herbs, explored the beautiful walled gardens, and even got up close to a magnificent redwood tree — we were all amazed to learn that it can drink up to 2,000 litres of water a day!
The children had the opportunity to make their very own lavender bags, engaging their senses while learning about the calming properties of this fragrant plant. They also planted sunflower seeds, thinking carefully about what plants need to grow and thrive. These hands-on activities helped reinforce our science learning in the most memorable way.
Of course, no visit to Knebworth would be complete without a walk through the dinosaur trail – the children were wide-eyed with excitement as they came face-to-face with life-sized prehistoric giants!
After a picnic lunch, we ended the day with fun and laughter in the adventure playground, exploring the fort and zipping down the slides. Throughout the entire day, the children were a credit to the school so well-behaved, respectful, and full of curiosity.
A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers Nick, Phil, and Ian for your support on the trip – we couldn’t have done it without you!
A Fantastic Art Week
This week, creativity has been in full bloom during Art Week. The children have loved exploring the imaginative world of Quentin Blake, creating lively and expressive illustrations inspired by his unique style. We talked about how illustrations can tell stories and convey emotion, and the children experimented with line, colour, and composition to bring their pictures to life.
We also continued working on our stunning Venetian paintings, adding detail and depth as we learned more about Venice’s unique architecture, canals, and gondolas. The children have shown such pride and focus in their work – it’s been a joy to see their artistic confidence grow.
Descriptive Writing in English
In English, we’ve been diving into descriptive writing, using Venice as our inspiration. The children have painted vivid pictures with words, describing the glistening water, ancient bridges, and bustling piazzas. We’ve focused on using expanded noun phrases, similes, and powerful verbs to bring their settings to life. It’s been wonderful to see how their writing has developed, and we can’t wait to share some of it with you at the upcoming art exhibition.
Looking Ahead – Art Exhibition & Colour Run!
There’s a real buzz of excitement in the classroom as we look forward to today’s Art Exhibition and Colour Run. The children can’t wait to show you their incredible artwork, and we’re all ready for a joyful (and colourful!) celebration to end the week.
Thank you for your continued support it’s been a week full of exploration, creativity, and joy!
