It has been a week full of creativity, confidence, and celebration! As we come to the end of a busy half term, we wanted to share some highlights from our classroom.
Poetry by Heart – The Power of Words
On Tuesday, we celebrated our very first Poetry by Heart event of the year — and what a celebration it was! Each class performed a poem by heart, and we were so impressed by the confidence and passion on display.
Our own class performance was none other than The Prince of Bel-Air! It was such fun to rehearse and perform — we worked hard to perfect the rhythm, think about the beats, and choose which words to stress. Of course, we couldn’t resist adding a few funky moves and a touch of beat-boxing too!
A recording of our performance is available for you to watch on Tapestry — don’t forget to log in and take a look!
Sharing Our Learning – Parent Consultations
On Wednesday, we were so proud to share our learning from this half term during our Parent Consultation meetings. We each wrote a special card highlighting what we’re particularly proud of and what we feel we’ve improved in since September.
It’s always such a joy to share our learning journey and achievements so far in Year 6. These moments link beautifully to our Rights Respecting School ethos and UNCRC Article 12 – the right of every child to express their views and be listened to. We love having the chance to reflect on our progress and celebrate how much we’ve grown both academically and personally.
We also felt a real sense of pride seeing our evacuee letters on display in the classroom. Inspired by Emma Carroll’s Letters from the Lighthouse, these letters are full of emotion and empathy, capturing the voices of children during wartime.
Art with L.S. Lowry
In Art this week, we continued learning how to draw faces with correct proportions – not an easy task! We studied some of L.S. Lowry’s famous works and created our own transcriptions, paying close attention to detail and expression. Our careful observation and perseverance really paid off – the results were amazing! As one pupil said, “I think that’s some of my best art in KS2 so far!”
Golden Morning – Enrichment and Fun!
Thursday brought us a truly fantastic Golden Morning. The school was buzzing with excitement as we took part in a wide range of enrichment activities – from circus skills to miniature garden making, from cooking to cool science experiments. Teamwork, cooperation, and curiosity shone through in every classroom. It was the perfect way to round off a half term of hard work and new learning. A special mention goes to Alice and Ellias, who expertly supported Mrs Tweedale with the science experiments. From magic colour-changing potions to self-inflating balloons, they wowed everyone with their scientific know-how — and even managed to explain the science behind each experiment! They taught our youngest children all about chemical reactions, acids, making predictions, and vibrations, to name just a few. They really are superstars!
We hope everyone enjoys a restful and well-deserved half term break. Take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy some family time.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back, bright and refreshed, on Monday 3rd November for another exciting half term in Year 6!
