This week was Anti-Bullying Week 2025, celebrated from Monday 10th to Friday 14th November, with the theme Power for Good. The week began with Odd Socks Day on Monday, where both children and adults wore odd socks to celebrate what makes everyone unique. Throughout the week, the children took part in engaging discussions and activities that highlighted how kindness, empathy and positive actions can be powerful tools for making a difference. They explored strategies to address both face-to-face and online bullying, as well as ways to support and stand up for others who may be experiencing unkind behaviour. This learning reflects our commitment as an Empathy School, where children are encouraged to understand and care about the feelings of others, and as a Rights Respecting School, where every child’s right to feel safe, respected, and valued is upheld. The week reminded everyone that by using their power for good, they can help create a community built on kindness, respect and understanding.
In English, the Year 5 children identified the key features of an informal letter and explored how subordinating conjunctions can be used to link clauses effectively and how noun phrases can add vivid detail to their writing. Drawing on the week’s theme of kindness and compassion, the children wrote heartfelt letters in the role of an evacuee child, expressing the difficulties they faced but also their gratitude and emotions towards the host families who welcomed them during such a challenging time.
In Maths, the Year 4 children focused on finding multiples of 9 and practised their multiplication and division facts. Meanwhile, the Year 5 children explored square, prime and cube numbers, developing their reasoning and problem-solving skills as they worked collaboratively—demonstrating teamwork and mutual support, another reflection of using their Power for Good.
In Design and Technology and Art, the children channelled their creativity and care into preparing for the upcoming Christmas Bazaar. They explored different ways to decorate and join fabric using their sewing skills.
They also drew Christmas-themed objects and scenes using line, shape, tone, and colour. Their beautifully designed brown paper bags radiated festive cheer and kindness, ready to be shared with the school community.
In PE, the children developed their movement skills to effectively lose a defender in different situations. They practised a variety of passes, along with protective dribbling and the V-dribble technique. Working in small teams, the children applied these skills in game-based activities, focusing on teamwork, control and strategy. This also linked to the “Power for Good” Anti-Bullying theme, as the children recognised the importance of using their influence positively—supporting and encouraging teammates, showing respect, and ensuring everyone felt included and valued during games.
