This week in Lime Class has been full of curiosity, creativity, and lively discussion. In history, we have been learning about Henry VIII and how he changed over the years. We talked about how the image we often see of him is the familiar portrait of a large man with a beard, but were surprised to discover that he was only 17 years old when he came to the throne and got married. Using a reconstruction app, we explored what Henry VIII might look like if he were a young man alive today, which sparked plenty of excitement and thoughtful comparisons.
In English, our Year 3 children rewrote a linked text explaining how Henry VIII became King of England, focusing on clear explanations and strong historical understanding. We also began exploring our new class text, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The children have already shown great enthusiasm and curiosity about the story, and we are looking forward to diving deeper into it over the coming weeks.
Mathematics this week focused on strengthening our understanding of multiplication and division. We used what we know about multiplication to solve division calculations, including those with remainders, and explored what really happens when we multiply and divide by ten. We discussed why the idea of simply “adding a zero” is not mathematically correct, helping the children to build a deeper and more accurate understanding.
In computing, we continued our journey into the world of Scratch. The children learned new command blocks and used them to move sprites around the screen, developing both their coding skills and their problem-solving confidence. In French, we expanded our vocabulary by learning more fruit names and practised using the correct determiners to match them.
Our art lessons have continued to focus on Impressionism. This week, we recreated a Monet-inspired picture using impressionist techniques such as mixing colours and applying quick dabs of paint. The results were truly stunning, with each piece being beautifully individual and full of character.
In yoga we focused on using our breathing to calm our minds and bodies. We then tried some stretching before seeing if we could move just one part of our bodies in isolation – we found it so much harder that we thought we would!
Science learning was split by year group. Year 3 explored how light helps us to see and learned about how our eyes work. Year 4 became “noise patrol,” using a decibel meter around the school to investigate sound levels. They then recorded their findings in bar charts, linking scientific enquiry with data handling skills.
In RE, Year 4 learned about the Jewish festival of Passover, while Year 3 explored the religious significance of the word “miracle.” They brought this learning to life by acting out stories from the New Testament about Jesus as a healer, showing great engagement and empathy.
It has been a busy and enjoyable week in Lime Class, full of learning, creativity, and fun.
