In Maple class this week, linking with their History topic, the children learned about and explained the Ancient Egyptian ritual of mummification, using subject-specific vocabulary to clearly describe each stage of the process. They then wrote a set of instructions and an explanation text about the mummification process, identifying the similarities and differences between the texts and revisiting fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases to improve the clarity and detail of their writing.
In PE, the children took part in a gymnastics session where they performed progressions of inverted movements and used apparatus to explore different body shapes and balances. They climbed ropes with determination, persevering to build their upper body strength while developing control and coordination throughout their movements. This learning connected with our Rights Respecting School values, linking to Article 24 (the right to good health) and Article 31 (the right to play, rest and take part in physical activities).
In PSHE, the children created colourful posters about online safety, focusing on recognising online dangers, keeping personal information private, and using technology responsibly. They explored how people online may not always be who they seem, recognised disrespectful behaviour, and discussed how to respond by reporting concerns to trusted adults. This learning linked to Article 16, the right to privacy, Article 19, the right to be protected from harm, and Article 17, the right to access safe and appropriate information. Together, these activities reinforced the children’s understanding of how taking care of their physical health and staying safe online are both important ways of exercising their rights.
In Art, the children explored the work of vase designers and examined different styles, shapes, and patterns. They then designed their own vase in preparation for next week, when they will create small sculptural pots or vases inspired by Ancient Egyptian art.
In Religious Education Year 4 have been learning about Judaism, exploring how celebrating Passover and following Kashrut (Jewish food laws) help Jewish people show God that they value their special relationship with Him. Through stories, discussion, and reflection, they learned how these traditions remember the Exodus and guide daily life. Meanwhile, Year 5 have been learning about Sikhism, focusing on Sikh stories and understanding their relevance today. They explored key teachings from the Gurus and discussed how values such as equality, kindness, honesty, and service continue to guide Sikhs in the modern world.
