Let’s imagine…

We’ve been a rather imaginative bunch in Early Years this week! The children loved acting in role as Jack climbing the jellybean stalk on Monday, eating as many delicious jellybeans as we could during our ascent! We gobbled up chocolate custard flavoured beans, apple pie ones and even fish and chip ones! The children enjoyed expressing their imagination creatively through their drawings during choosing time, adding their flavour to the jellybean stalk before labelling it with sounds that they have been learning.

The creative thinking continued in maths, as we explored data handling through voting for our favourite songs, places to play and types of weather! We discovered through role play (and a great deal of critical thinking), that the most popular type of weather was warm and sunny, we like to play outside and that our favourite song is Five Little Ducks!

A huge highlight for us this week was a visit from Perform, who put on a drama workshop for us! The children explored the theme of Midnight in the Toyshop, and used drama, dance and singing to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills. Later on in the day, the children thought about their favourite toy during our P4C session and wondered whether it would indeed be a good thing if toys could come to life!

During PE lessons the children are continuing to develop their balls skills and they are growing in confidence at throwing, catching, rolling and kicking the balls. There was also some excellent team work demonstrated as they worked in pairs to pass the ball to each other and to defend the goal!

The children have been discussing the topic of belonging as part of ‘Place2Be’s’-Children’s Mental Health week. The children spoke about times when they feel like they belong: spending time with their families,  when their friends let them join in with their play and when they are greeted with a smiley face from Mrs Lammin in the morning at school! All the children made a special effort to make sure their friends felt like they belonged by playing together and ensuring everyone was able to join in and no one felt left out.

In Knowledge and Understanding of the World we read the story: ‘My Green Day’. The children shared lots of ways that we can help look after our planet using the ideas from the book. We then reused lots of recycling items to build and create wonderful things! Look how imaginative we have been reusing something old to make a new creation!

On Friday the children continued with the imaginative week when we went for a holiday adventure during Forest school! The children made their own passports before we suited up and ‘boarded the plane’ ready for our holiday adventure! The children all wanted to fly to somewhere hot, (don’t we all!) But sadly Pilot Connor’s Google Maps only directed him to fly on to the playground, so we had to imagine hard and pretend that we were jumping into a swimming pool or the sea rather than a puddle! What a fun week!
