Drama, Descriptions, and a Love of Reading

This week in Beech class has been full of exciting learning moments. The children participated in a fantastic drama workshop led by Drama4All, focusing on a toy theme. The workshop provided the children with a great opportunity to explore drama in a fun and engaging way. They had the chance to express themselves, use their imaginations, and work collaboratively to create different scenarios and stories. It was an excellent way for them to build confidence and explore creative expression through role-play.

In PSHE, the children have been focusing on resolving different scenarios through discussion and problem-solving. They’ve been looking at how they can approach tricky situations and come up with ways to solve them in a calm and constructive manner. This has been an important focus for developing their emotional and social skills, helping them navigate both everyday challenges and more complex situations.

In English, Year 2 have started exploring a new book, Samson’s Titanic Journey. They’ve been concentrating on using descriptive language to compare the luxurious grand hall of the Titanic with the much more basic third-class deck. The children have been honing their skills in using vivid adjectives and detailed descriptions, helping them to create clear and engaging pictures of both settings. Meanwhile, Year 1 have been enjoying The Storm Whale by Benji Davies. They’ve been describing the characters within the story, focusing on how the characters’ actions and emotions shape the narrative. It’s been fantastic to see them engage with the book and develop their understanding of character traits and storytelling.

In maths, Year 2 have been working on position and direction. They’ve been learning about how to move objects in different directions and understanding concepts such as turning and moving along coordinates. This has helped them build an understanding of spatial awareness and how to navigate spaces. Year 1 have been focusing on multiplication and division, exploring how numbers relate to one another. They’ve been using practical activities and problem-solving exercises to reinforce these concepts in a hands-on way.

One of the most wonderful aspects of this week has been the children’s growing love of reading. Whether they’re immersed in Samson’s Titanic Journey or The Storm Whale, it’s clear to see how excited they are to dive into new stories and learn through books. Their enthusiasm for reading continues to grow, and it’s so rewarding to see them develop both their comprehension and imagination through the power of stories.

It’s been another inspiring week in Beech class, with creativity, teamwork, and a strong sense of curiosity evident in everything the children do. Their passion for learning shines through in each lesson, and we’re excited to see them continue to thrive.
