What an exciting and memorable week it has been in Maple class! In English, the children learned when to use articles and possessive pronouns in sentences and practised using single-word, phrase, and clause fronted adverbials. They then reflected on and shared everything they have achieved so far this year. As a result, they typed their memories, personal achievements, and future goals, showing great pride in their work while continuing to develop their typing skills. It has been wonderful to see them celebrate their progress and look ahead positively to the future.
In Maths, the children revised 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on their names and properties. They also revisited lines of symmetry and completed symmetrical figures using mirrors, applying their understanding carefully and accurately.
This week, we were also delighted to receive letters and Easter cards from our penpals in Greece. The children enjoyed reading the messages and wrote replies sharing their plans for the summer holidays and activities they would like to enjoy with their friends and family. This meaningful exchange links beautifully to Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which highlights every child’s right to meet with others, make friends and communicate with people from different communities and cultures.
In History, the children completed their topic on the Maya civilisation. They explored Mayan religion and beliefs, including the fascinating Mayan creation story and learned about the decline of the Mayan civilisation. The children asked thoughtful questions, reserached the answers with their learning partners and demonstrated a strong understanding of this ancient society.
To celebrate our Spring term topic on the Ancient Egyptians, the children delivered an amazing performance filled with fascinating facts, wonderful acting, confident singing and impressive knowledge. They truly shone on stage and should feel incredibly proud of their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the topic.
To celebrate their learning and their show, the children enjoyed following step-by-step instructions to draw comic cartoons of Ancient Egyptian pharaohs. They used their creativity and artistic skills to create colourful, expressive illustrations inspired by their recent learning about Ancient Egypt.
