Builders!

LIME

CHEESE! Over the weekend, some work had been done in the forest and branches had been cut back to make room for the book bus. The debris had left wood chips in a huge heap all over the forest and the children decided to scoop it all up and make a ‘Cheese carpet’. They also buried each other in the chippings and were having a great time. The amazing shelter from last week was reimagined again, only today it had to protect them from Zombie attacks. The forest band ‘Lazy but Crazy’ were back and they were writing the start of a new rap song.

WILLOW

Forest Olympics! After last week’s triumphant hide and seek game, it was time for the first-ever Little Hadham Forest Olympiad. The teams were randomly drawn and the first challenge was to come up with a team name and make a forest flag. Some great sticks were held aloft and some very intricate details were curated. The 4 teams were… ‘The Winners’, ‘Slay, Gonna Lose’, ‘Biscoff Spread’ and ‘ The Space Raiders’. They were having so much fun that it’s now become a 2 week event! Join us after half term to see who takes home the medals!

RED TAPE IN THE FOREST?! The biggest mystery the forest has ever seen gripped Early Years. The children wondered what it might be for and were worried that the trees were broken. It turned out some builders had arrived and were digging up some of the field so that the library bus could be safely installed there. They watched in awe as the excavator began digging and some chainsaw action took place too. Every time the engine started, they would come running over and stand at the tape to get a better look.

BEECH

Beech class were also very interested in the digging but were also very concerned that the hammock wouldn’t be safe in its usual spot. A team found the perfect temporary home and even though it was slightly more wobbly than normal, they were very happy. Between watching the builders, a group began collecting bugs and had a real mix all together in a bucket. A dam was being constructed in the digging zone, which was going very well until they realised that the water butt was empty! A very cool new den was built in a bush too.

MAPLE

Maple class were highly concerned that the main climbing tree was out of bounds and felt like it was a very unjust end to the half term! It didn’t take them long to get over it, as they were over the moon to find out that they didn’t have to cover up their arms and legs! A community shelter was built that anyone in Maple class could attend to find shade. The only problem was that it was actually hotter underneath the thick, dark tarp, than outside! There was also a brief water fight, that seemed to drench everyone, which was great for cooling them down.
