As we come to the end of another busy and successful half term in Beech Class, I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate all of the wonderful learning that has taken place across the curriculum.
A huge congratulations must first go to the Year 2 children, who have successfully completed their SATs papers this half term. We aimed to keep the process as calm and low-key as possible, and the children approached each assessment with maturity, resilience and positivity. I am incredibly proud of the effort they have shown and the progress they have made throughout the year.
In English, the children have been exploring the beautiful text Lila and the Secret of Rain by David Conway. They used the story to support their learning in Geography, particularly our work on biomes, climate and different environments around the world. The children have written some fantastic stories inspired by the text, using ambitious vocabulary, descriptive language and thoughtful ideas linked to droughts, weather and the importance of water in different parts of the world.
In DT, the children have worked extremely hard to design and create their own hand puppets. They carefully worked on their stitching skills and showed great perseverance while learning how to sew pieces of fabric together. The Year 2 children challenged themselves even further by sewing on buttons independently, which proved very tricky but was completed with determination and patience. Once finished, the children evaluated their puppets thoughtfully, reflecting on what went well and what they would improve next time.
Our continuous provision learning has also been full of purposeful exploration and teamwork. The children have particularly enjoyed working collaboratively outdoors to solve real-life problems linked to Science and Maths. They investigated ways to transport water to the raised beds and explored how water can be moved effectively to help care for plants. The children used a range of mathematical skills to measure the raised beds, compare lengths and estimate quantities. This work encouraged excellent teamwork, problem-solving and discussions around caring for our environment and understanding the importance of looking after living things.
It has been wonderful to see the children continue to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity this half term. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable half-term break.
