A trip to Southend!

Last  week in Lime Class, we got busy with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum. In Maths, we have been exploring mass and capacity, developing our skills in reading scales that count in different denominations and working out the value of intervals when they are not labelled. The children showed great perseverance and problem-solving skills as they tackled increasingly challenging questions.

In English, our Year 3 children put their creativity to good use by writing their own adventure stories, while Year 4 researched and created linked paragraphs for an informative text about London. It has been wonderful to see the children developing their writing skills and presenting their ideas clearly and confidently. In Geography, we learned about different bodies of water and explored the water cycle, helping us to understand how water moves around our planet. Music lessons were full of energy as we used body percussion to create layered rhythms, working together to build and perform our own musical pieces.

In PE, we have continued developing our skills in athletics and gymnastics, showing determination and enthusiasm in every session. Our PSHE learning focused on compromise and conflict, where we discussed difficult situations, considered different points of view and explored a range of possible solutions. The children contributed thoughtfully and demonstrated excellent maturity when sharing their ideas.

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our trip to Southend. We had a fantastic time exploring the Sea Life Centre, where the otters and penguins were very popular. However, the clear favourite was the shark and ray tunnel, which left us all amazed as sea creatures swam overhead. The seahorses also fascinated the children, who spent a long time watching them. After lunch, we enjoyed some time playing on the beach before treating ourselves to an ice cream on the seafront.

Unfortunately, our journey home did not quite go to plan when the coach broke down. However, the children were absolutely incredible. We found a safe place to wait, and they kept themselves entertained by chatting and playing with their friends. With water and biscuits from nearby shops and plenty of good humour, the time passed quickly and before we knew it, a replacement coach had arrived. We all eventually made it home tired but happy after what will certainly be a trip to remember!

Finally, I would like to say how proud we are of all the children. They were a real credit to you during a difficult and uncertain time. Not once did we hear a moan or complaint, and they listened carefully, behaved brilliantly and represented the school wonderfully. Thank you also to all of the fabulous adults who gave up their time to help and support us on the day—we could not have done it without you.
