26.6.2026 From Bean to Bar and Beyond!

This week in Maple Class, the children explored the fascinating journey of chocolate from bean to bar. In English, they wrote clear and informative explanation paragraphs describing the different stages of chocolate production, developing their understanding of how to organise factual information effectively. They also enjoyed reading and analysing narrative poems inspired by the work of Michael Rosen, discussing features such as figurative language and exploring how poets bring their work to life through voice, facial expressions, body language and performance techniques. After identifying the key features of narrative poetry, the children wrote creative chocolate-themed narrative poems.

In Geography, the children researched the physical and human features of Mexico with their learning partners. They investigated among others Mexico’s climate, biomes, farming and its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire. They also learned about the country’s languages, population, trade and the importance of the Panama Canal in global trade routes. Using their research, the children created informative and colourful leaflets about Mexico.

In Maths, the children practised converting units of measurement, including metres to kilometres and grams to kilograms. In their MoneySense lesson, the children learned how to keep their money safe. They discussed why people use bank accounts, the risks of spending money online and how to avoid scams. They also explored how financial scams can affect people and their feelings.

In French, the children learned about Le Carnaval de Nice, a famous French festival. They practised asking and answering questions, expressing their opinions about the carnival, and created colourful masks inspired by the celebrations. They also learned sun-related vocabulary, inspired by the hot temperatures this week.
