This week has been full of creativity and imagination as we dived deeper into our class text. The children thoroughly enjoyed role-playing a dramatic scene where poor Arthur found himself in a frightening situation deep in the forest. This sparked lively discussion and inspired some excellent writing as we stepped into the shoes of Atrix the Wise Woman. The children wrote persuasive speeches either supporting or opposing the idea of Arthur being chosen to save the town. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow as they shared their views and used evidence from the text to back up their opinions.
In maths, we continued to build on our money sense skills. The children have been learning how to spot good deals and understand the value of money through real-life scenarios such as comparing bargains and working out the best prices. These practical lessons help them develop confidence with everyday maths and make informed decisions as smart consumers. It’s been great to see the children so engaged and working collaboratively to solve problems and explain their thinking to each other.
Our PSHE lesson this week focused on a vital life skill—basic first aid. The children learned what to do in simple emergency situations, such as treating cuts and bumps or knowing when and how to seek help from an adult. They asked thoughtful questions and took part in role-play activities to reinforce what they had learned. We were proud of how sensible and focused they were during the session. In science, the year 3 children were hands on when they investigated the force of friction using Newton meters to drag heavy books across the floor!
In history, we’ve begun to explore the fascinating era of Viking invasions. We discovered what the Danelaw was and how the Danegeld payment affected life in Anglo-Saxon England. The children particularly enjoyed researching and writing their own biographies of Alfred the Great, showing great interest in how he defended his kingdom and earned his title. To end the busy week, we unwound with a calming yoga session, allowing everyone to relax and reflect. Despite the hot weather, the children have remained upbeat—and Thursday’s ice lolly treat certainly helped keep us all cool and smiling!
