Beech class 3rd November 2023

We have had a super week in Beech class! The children have eagerly anticipated the arrival of the guinea pigs (Snowy and Cookie) which they are delighted to be responsible for this half of term. It has been lovely to link our science learning ‘living things and their habitats’ to them. We have spent time looking at what the ideal wild habitat is for a guinea pig.

Our outside area has now been extended, the children are very pleased with their new space. Continuing on from previous weeks, we have enjoyed our outdoor reading and writing. The children have put on wonderful shows on the outdoor stage and have enjoyed looking at ocean habitats.

In year one our English focus has been on the traditional tale of ‘The Gingerbread Man.’ The children started by making finger puppets to support them with retelling their favourite part of the story. Once they were secure with this they then wrote questions for the characters. ‘How did you come to life?’ and  ‘How did you cross the river?’  They enjoyed hot seating the characters and then retold the story in their own words. In year two we have been looking at instructions. After looking at the features of instructions, the children wrote instructions for the most disgusting sandwich they could think of! This linked to our previous story of ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’ we wanted the sandwiches to scare off the seagulls.’

Have a lovely weekend.
