Lime Class have had a fantastic and productive week, filled with learning, curiosity and lots of enthusiasm. In English, the year 3 children have been focusing on key grammar skills, including using inverted commas correctly in sentences and practising apostrophes for both contractions and possession. They have enjoyed applying these skills in their writing and are becoming increasingly confident in recognising them while reading too. In year 4 the children have been focussing on effectively using expanded nouns and fronted adverbials in their writing and learning how to create a storyboard to use as a plan.
They also enjoyed a special performance of ‘An Incredible Journey’ which taught them about story writing through drama and involved lots of fun, laughter and audience participation.
In Maths, Year 3 have been working on their 4 times table while Year 4 have tackled the 7 times table. Both year groups have also been solving word problems and strengthening their addition and subtraction strategies. Our mental and oral sessions using the Winning with Numbers app have helped build fluency, and excitement is already growing for the upcoming TTRockstars battle.
Science has been full of hands-on exploration. Year 3 investigated magnets and magnetic materials and learnt about some ancient stories which feature magnets, while Year 4 learned about electricity by building their own circuits using wires, bulbs and switches. The children showed great teamwork and perseverance throughout.
In Geography, the class compared and contrasted the human geography of Scandinavia, gathering information by taking part in a fact hunt around the room. Their curiosity really shone through as they discovered how life there compares to the UK. In Design and Technology, the children practised shaping card using different techniques, developing accuracy and creativity.
The class have also enjoyed their PE sessions, playing basketball both indoors and outdoors and building their dribbling, passing and teamwork skills. In PSHE, we talked about unwanted behaviours, exploring why they might happen, how they affect others and constructive ways to respond. Finally, in Computing, the children learned about online bullying and discussed how to recognise it and what to do if it occurs, showing a mature understanding of how to stay safe and kind online.
The week reached a triumphant finale with the eagerly anticipated Christmas bazaar. The children worked hard to create beautiful paper mache baubles which were available to buy for £1 each. These complemented their DT topic about shell structures. They also delighted parents and carers by giving an enthusiastic performance of the classic song ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’. I rather think that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…….
Overall, it has been a busy and very positive week, and the children should be proud of their hard work. Have a lovely weekend!
