It’s been another busy week in EYFS! The children have been full of enthusiasm and were particularly enjoying making marks and writing in their choosing time. One source of inspiration has been our work on Ruby’s Worry, as the children have been keen to draw their own illustrations, whilst applying their maths learning as they draw different sized ‘worries’.

Outdoors, imaginative play has taken centre stage. The children worked together to build a big cat sanctuary using the large blocks, narrating stories, and bringing their ideas to life through play. It was a fantastic opportunity to see them using rich language and creative thinking, all while collaborating as a group.

We’ve also been focusing on some important personal and social skills this week, like listening carefully, sharing fairly, and taking good care of our classroom toys and resources. We thought about different types of sharing, such as taking turns, sharing by dividing resources and collaborating. These moments of kindness and cooperation are just as important as our academic learning, and we’re so proud of the progress everyone is making.
In PE, the children are continuing to work on their hand eye co-ordination and are getting much better at throwing and catching beanbags, with both hands. Forest school sessions continue to be full of fun where the children are playing team games where they learn to work together.
Ash and Saplings have been learning about Harvest and how busy the farmers are on the fields, collecting all their crops. We also thought about what scarecrows do and the children really enjoyed singing the dingle dangle scarecrow song! Our Tales Toolkit story involved a scarecrow and a pesky little bird. The children had plenty of fantastic story telling ideas for this session.
On Friday, the classroom was a wonderful array of yellow as we wore the colour for mental health day. We talked about the importance of sharing our worries with our families and friends and how helpful it is to talk things through.
