Hands-On History, Colourful Art, and Kind Heart

This week in Beech Class, we have had a wonderful mix of creative, historical, and personal development activities!
The children had an exciting and immersive history lesson exploring the Gunpowder Plot. They acted out different parts of the plot, stepping into the shoes of the historical figures involved. After acting out the events, they put their detective skills to the test by creating “Wanted” posters in an attempt to catch the other plotters. This hands-on approach really helped the children understand the events of the plot and the people involved, making history both fun and memorable.

In art, the Year 1 children continued to develop their drawing skills by creating pictures using one continuous line, inspired by the work of Paul Klee. They explored how to incorporate different shapes within their lines, experimenting with flow and creativity. Meanwhile, the Year 2 children focused on colour mixing, learning how to create secondary colours by blending primary colours. They explored different combinations and observed how new colours emerge, developing both their understanding of colour theory and their fine motor skills.
In PSHE, the children thought about what to do if someone is feeling left out. They discussed ways to include everyone and make sure no one feels excluded. To bring this idea to life, the children imagined the class as a jigsaw puzzle each person a unique piece that contributes to completing the whole picture. This activity helped the children understand that everyone matters and that simple actions can make a big difference in helping someone feel included.
In RE, the Year 2 children explored how Christians prepare for Christmas, learning about the traditions and practices that help people get ready for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. The Year 1 children considered what it would mean if Baby Jesus were born in their own town. They thought carefully about suitable gifts they might give him, reflecting on kindness, thoughtfulness, and the true spirit of giving. These activities encouraged the children to connect religious stories to their own lives in meaningful ways.
Beech Class have shown creativity, curiosity, and kindness this week. It has been wonderful to see them bringing their learning to life in so many ways!
