Is that the sound of jingle bells…?

The children in Early Years have been feeling rather festive this week! With a lot of eagerness and excitement, the children helped to put together the Christmas tree and spent the afternoon decorating it with a mixture of carefully chosen baubles and ones that they made themselves. It has been lovely to see the tree become a part of our classroom, and the children have been using this Christmassy corner to write letters to Father Christmas.

Another reason for the extra buzz in the air this week, was the writing of our Christmas Show invitations and classroom poster! In Ash, the children have been working on forming sentences in phonics, which really came in handy when writing our invites. Saplings children have been looking at sound and letter correspondences and giving meaning to the marks they make.

In maths, we have been looking at the properties of shape this week, introducing mathematical terminology such as edge and corner. Saplings enjoyed singing along to the Hokey Cokey, as they practised their positional language in and out. Ash have been expert shape detectives, finding familiar features of shapes in their environment and in images, from the circular buttons on a snowman’s tummy, to the triangular Christmas tree!
