What a fantastic week it has been in Lime Class! The children have been busy across all areas of learning and have shown great enthusiasm and creativity in everything they’ve done.
In English, we spent time reviewing, editing, and redrafting our written work, focusing on improving vocabulary, punctuation, and overall presentation. We also had our first look at our new poem for Poetry by Heart — Adventures of Isabel by Ogden Nash. The children really enjoyed exploring the poem’s rhythm, humour, and playful language, and we can’t wait to start learning it by heart.
In Maths, we began our work on addition and subtraction, applying our understanding of place value to add hundreds, tens, and ones to numbers. The children have been developing their confidence with different strategies and tackling some tricky challenges with real determination.
Art lessons this week were all about shape and shading. Using their knowledge of overlapping spheres, the children created beautiful sketches of balloons, paying close attention to light, shadow, and depth to make their drawings look three-dimensional.
In Music, we’ve been using body percussion to create rhythms inspired by Night on a Bare Mountain. The class then took part of the music and composed their own imaginative lyrics about witches to match the mood of the piece — with some wonderfully spooky and dramatic results!
Science learning has been busy and hands-on. Year 3 have been exploring food chains, learning how plants and animals depend on each other and discovering the roles of producers, consumers, and predators. They have also learnt about food waste and sustainability. Meanwhile, Year 4 have been using their sorting and classifying skills to identify and group different types of autumn leaves, noticing patterns in shape, texture, and colour. They have also been outside to collect live data on the number of invertebrates, vertebrates, flowering and non-flowering plants they could find.
In RE, the Year 3 children have been finding out about the Hindu festival of Diwali, which is coming up soon. They’ve enjoyed learning about its traditions, decorations, and the story behind the celebration.
Computing lessons have focused on creating presentations using Keynote and PowerPoint. The children have been practising how to organise information clearly, choose effective designs, and present ideas confidently.
In RE Year 3 children thought about how it might feel to be a Hindu child at Diwali, and Year 4’s explored the affirmations Jewish people use to live their day to lives by.
And finally, PE has been full of energy as we continue to build our skills in rugby and hockey. The children have been working hard on passing, teamwork, and coordination, showing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout.
It’s been a wonderfully creative and active week in Lime Class — full of learning, laughter, and discovery!
