What a fantastic first full week we’ve had in school! The children have settled in brilliantly, and we’re so proud of how quickly they’ve picked up our daily routines. As the children familiarise themselves with this, you will notice that the morning transition between home and school will start to get a little easier day by day, as they grow in confidence with their new routines and classroom.
This week, we also introduced our focus book: Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival. The story helped us explore the importance of talking about our feelings and how sharing our worries can make them feel much smaller. The children created their own colourful worry monsters, which we proudly displayed in the classroom. We had some thoughtful conversations, with children opening up about little things that had been on their minds, from finding their peg in the morning to knowing where the toilets are.
In Ash class, the children have started their phonics sessions with lots of excitement, especially when they got to write in their brand new books! In Saplings, story times have been a big hit. The children have loved listening to stories with repeated patterns and joining in with familiar phrases.
Carpet times have also been full of fun and learning. Whether it’s maths with Cheeky Monkey or circle time with Harold, the children have really enjoyed working together, sharing ideas, and developing those all-important social skills. One of the highlights of the week was our very first dance lesson. The children worked in pairs to practise their skipping skills, and we were blown away by their brilliant listening and teamwork! In their first PE lesson, the children’s listening skills continued as they used hoops in different ways, including jumping in and out of them, balancing on them and rolling them.
Another exciting first was Forest school at the end of the week. The children enjoyed exploring the forest and learning the rules. Whilst some bravely climbed the trees, others thoroughly enjoyed making muddy concoctions!
We’re so proud of how well the children are adjusting to school life. Their energy and curiosity has made our first week together a real joy!
