The start of the week was a hot one for us all! It found the children in Early Years enjoying playing in shady spots outside, engaging with lots of different activities from ice exploration to developing narratives for a puppet show. We also made sure that we kept on top of looking after our plants outside and, as a result of our hard work, we’ve been rewarded this week with our first beans and a beetroot! The beetroot was a firm favourite amongst the children, with some children commenting on its “yummy” flavour!
We welcomed back the wonderful Woodland Rangers to our Forest this week, who had the children practising using hand drills to make holes in wooden discs to make their own necklaces! The children enjoyed this challenge and showed a great deal of perseverance and concentration.
The children have been really enjoying art week this week. Studying Canaletto, ‘A Regatta on the Grand Canal’, the children spoke about what they could see, and imagined what might be happening. The children used the clues to piece together the fact that the gondolas were in a race and the spectating boats around them were filled with people cheering the racers on! We were particularly drawn to the ‘fancy boats’ within the painting (named bissones) and the children commented on their elaborate decorations. We learnt a few different techniques to recreate this ‘curly’ effect and had a go at these techniques on our own boats. We also took time to paint a canal for our boats to sit on in readiness for the grand unveiling of our art exhibition on Friday!
The children then painted their own canals and built houses for alongside. Thank you so much to all the grown ups who came to see their children’s artwork – they loved sharing it with you!

After the Art Exhibition it was finally time for the Colour Run which the children had been very excited about! It was great to see them joining in with the songs before hand, doing the warm up and then taking part in the run itself. They looked very colourful by the end and certainly deserved their medals.
