Some People say I’m Conkers…

LIME

Lime were very impressed that a huge pile of conkers was dropped into the middle of the forest and spent the whole session scrambling around trying to find more and use them in as many different ways as possible. There were a number of shops washing conkers and then passing them out but the main thing that they wanted to do was see what was inside them! They peeled, squished and bashed the conkers in half and then immediately decided that the smooth, white, soft inside were potatoes – which they then tried to sell!

WILLOW

Willow went into hoarding mode as soon as they conkers were dropped into their laps. There were 3 main teams who were scavenging and collecting and quite a great deal of stealing took place too. Then, like squirrels, a few teams began hiding their supply in the hope that no one else would be able to find them.  They were also very excited by the huge rope swing and queued up to have a go, some pushed the swing to its limits and others just enjoyed dangling. Everyone’s pockets had to be checked for misplaced conkers on the way out!

EYFS

Since discovering the conkers was so much fun last week, the Early Years and Saplings decided to see what else they could discover! They were amazed to find that there were more things growing that were very similar to conkers in our very own forest. They lined up all the sweet chestnut shells on a big wooden beam and went off to find more. They also really enjoyed being introduced to the hammock! They worked very hard to take turns and share and loved lazing around.

BEECH

A tremendous amount of things were happening as Beech were all over the place doing 1000 things at once! A group were making their own restaurant and made some delicious pasta dish (with ice cream), a team discovered the rope swing and took turns dragging each other around, a fantastic den sprung up using a whole bunch of sticks – topped with a tarp, the hammock was constantly in use, as was the tree and finally a terrifying trap was made…but then they got scared the trap was too good, so put a perimeter around it – to keep everyone safe. Phew!

MAPLE

The rope swing was calling Maple once again and there was one point where over half the class were lining up in front of the shed waiting for their turn. One person had the exhausting job of pushing everyone and lots of giggles could be heard throughout. They also continued the trend of having a festival for one of the Beech class children. Circles of mud were drawn on members’ heads, so that everyone else knew that they were part of the festivities! The ongoing autopsy continued with the conkers, as they were all split in half!
