The Autumn term – where did it go?

This week has been filled with a wide range of exciting activities and engaging learning opportunities for the children. In English, the class explored the beautiful country of Norway as part of our geography topic on Scandinavia. The children wrote their own travel blogs, imagining themselves as visitors exploring Norway’s landscapes, landmarks and culture. They enjoyed researching and presenting their ideas creatively, making strong links between their English and geography learning.

In maths, we focused on multiplication and division and explored how the two operations are connected. The children were especially enthusiastic during our TT Rockstars battle, which created a real buzz in the classroom. Each day, they eagerly asked to hear the class’s total points and showed great teamwork by encouraging one another to take part and improve. It was lovely to see such positive motivation and shared excitement around learning.

Our DT this week involved some great problem solving and measuring skills as we measured and drew nets for our prototype biscuit packaging. We then tried the nets out using scissors and card and applying our folding techniques learnt earlier in the term. The next step is to test them out with some pretend cardboard biscuits to see if they are fit for purpose, then we can adjust our designs and make and evaluate our products.

Our PHSE lessons prompted some thoughtful and mature discussions as we explored the topic of stereotyping. The children listened carefully to one another, shared their views and reflected on how stereotypes can affect people. In science, we continued experimenting with magnets, testing whether they attract or repel each other. This led to discussions about magnetic poles and some excellent links to the Earth itself. The children were fascinated by learning about what causes the Northern Lights and even questioned whether there are Southern Lights too. While researching online, we made sure to apply our top tips for online safety and checked information across at least three reliable sources.

The highlight of the week was our talent show auditions. The children who took part were incredibly brave, and we were treated to some wonderful performances. The successful acts were chosen by an audience vote, making it an exciting and tense event for everyone involved. Good luck to those going on to represent the class in the whole-school competition, and a big well done to everyone who auditioned – it was a very tough choice. We ended the week with great excitement on Thursday afternoon as we headed off to the pantomime. Despite a noisy coach journey and a very loud performance, it was great fun and enjoyed by all. Oh no it wasn’t… oh yes it was!
